Privacy Policy

Last updated 19 July 2026

Spark Summaries is made by Cloudshift. This policy describes exactly what the app collects, why it collects it, and how to get rid of it. It is written to match what the app actually does rather than to cover every eventuality.

The short version

There is no analytics, no tracking, and no advertising in this app. No third-party analytics SDK, no advertising identifier, no cross-app or cross-site tracking of any kind. Nothing you do in the app is sold or shared with data brokers. What we store is what the app needs to work: your account, and where you are up to in a book.

What we collect

DataWhyWhen
Email address and display name To create and sign you into your account Only if you create an account
Reading progress — which books you have saved, started or finished, and which spark you are on So your place follows you between devices and between reading and listening Only while signed in
Reading streak — the days you read To show your streak Only while signed in
Subscription status To know whether your account has access. We receive this from Apple; we never see your payment details Only if you subscribe
Feedback you send us To read and act on it Only when you choose to send it

What stays on your device

Your highlights never leave your phone. They are stored locally and are not uploaded to our servers. The same is true of your theme, text size and other reading preferences.

What we never collect

Signing in with Apple or Google

If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your email address and name so we can create your account. We receive nothing else, and we do not post anything or read anything from those accounts. If you use Apple's Hide My Email, we only ever see the relay address Apple gives us.

Where your data is held

On our own servers in Germany, running Appwrite. We do not use a third-party analytics or advertising provider, so your data is not passed to one. Apple processes subscription and billing information under its own privacy policy.

How long we keep it

For as long as your account exists. Delete your account and your account record, reading progress and streak are deleted with it. Feedback you have sent is kept separately so we can still act on it, and is not linked to your account once the account is gone.

Deleting your account

Email [email protected] from the address on your account and we will delete it, along with everything listed above. No forms, no retention period, no attempt to talk you out of it.

Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription — Apple holds that. Cancel it in Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your iPhone.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

Children

Spark Summaries is not aimed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will remove it.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect or why, we will update the date at the top and note the change in the app's release notes.
